What I deliver
- New cloud systems, usually serverless, built end to end including infrastructure, application and deployment.
- Migrations onto AWS or GCP, or off infrastructure that has become expensive, fragile or unsupported.
- Infrastructure as code for estates currently configured by hand, using CloudFormation, AWS SAM or Terraform.
- Deployment pipelines, monitoring and alerting, so that shipping is routine and you hear about problems before your customers do.
- Cost work on cloud bills that have grown faster than the product.
All of it from one engineer, which is usually what decides whether a date holds. Nobody is waiting on anyone else, and the infrastructure work doesn’t queue behind the application work.
How I choose
Most of my work is on AWS, and if you have no existing commitment that’s usually where I’d start you. But the platform should follow the system rather than the other way round: Google Cloud Run, for instance, is an excellent fit for container workloads that don’t justify a Kubernetes cluster, and Firebase is often the fastest route to a product that needs a back end but not a back-end team.
Where the honest answer is that you don’t need what you’re being sold — a managed service you’d never use, or a multi-region setup for a system with fifty users — I’ll say so. Cloud costs are easy to accumulate and hard to unwind.
