I was the sole developer on China Checkup from 2013 to 2014, handling all front-end and back-end development as well as managing the server.
China Checkup sells business verification and analysis services to clients outside China. The site is a custom e-commerce system built on the Laravel framework rather than an off-the-shelf platform.
Selling a service rather than a physical product changes what an e-commerce system has to do. A large part of the work was automating the workflow of creating, modifying and selling those services to clients.
Being the only developer meant the server was mine as well as the code, so the MySQL database, the Redis cache and the Linux hosting were all part of the job.
Some time after I left the company, China Checkup migrated to the Shopify platform.
